April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), and teal is the official color of SAAM. SAAM provides an opportunity to raise awareness of sexual violence's prevalence in our society and to emphasize the need for active citizen involvement in efforts to end sexual violence. It is often when rape crisis centers publicize services available to victims/survivors and their significant others and education available to schools and other organizations. SAAM also allows rape crisis centers to seek an increase in community support.
