| Rape
is rape, even if it is your legal husband. He still does not
have the right to rape you and get you pregnant. While the Courts
say, "It wasn't rape, you are married." Where is the justice?

excerpts
from SFWAR's newsletter article."From Surviving to Thriving".
r>"When a client comes to SFWAR for an intake appointment,
I take the opportunity at the end of the intake to explain
our unique approach towards counseling. I explain that SFWAR
recognizes that each survivor is the ultimate expert of her/his
own healing process—that existing inside each individual,
is the capacity to heal. I further explain that our role
as peer counselors, is to walk beside survivors while holding
up a metaphoric mirror—a mirror draped in radical compassion
and a commitment to both honoring and honing the healing
potential and resiliency of each survivor.
I’m exploring the idea that in the aftermath of sexual violence
and abuse it can be easier and more comfortable to hold onto
the wounds of such an intimate violation. The goal of SFWAR’s
Counseling Program is to ultimately shift beyond surviving
and into the realm of thriving. Imperative in this process
is the conscious paradigm shift away from a culture of wounding
and towards a sustainable culture of healing. What incentive
is there for people to heal when in fact our culture gives
more agency and support to the wounded. When we remain wounded,
there is absolutely no energy available to recognize the
systems of oppression that perpetuate our wounding. Like
a hamster in a hamster cage, we are kept too busy running
the wheel to realize that we are being held captive. It is
this captivity that renders us ineffectual to resist the
systems of oppression, which are the root causes of the violence
that inflicted our wounds in the first place."

| Boys/Men
are also victims of sexual abuse. Boys, especially suffer in
silence. The shame and guilt and hopelessness is evident in their
eyes; the girls and boys who have lost their innocence. (As a
child sexual-abuse therapist ) I carry their stories, and hope
to help them create new ones.
