Children deserve the respect and trust of their family and the protection of their community. Instead they receive abuse and pain. Even when a child finally finds the stength to speak up they receive degradation; if they speak out; they are called liers and told it must have been their fault. In our society a family would rather turn their eyes away than admit one of their own is sexually abusing a child.

My 12 year old daughter was a victim of sexual abuse by a male relative. Not being able to prevent the initial abuse we are now on a quest for justice. Not only for her but for any other children he has hurt along the way.

Congratulations to a fellow Miamian for your efforts to spread positive messages via Art. Working on research on sexual abuse of children has raised a greater consiousness of the incidence of the problem and the long-term effects experienced by children. The effects are immense and varying, and include from the physiological to the psychological. The innocence of children is being robbed and I was wondering if you could somehow portray this concept of innocence being taken by another against one's will, leaving a child in confusion, isolation, fear, and an uncertain future. Somewhere too, it would be nice to see the element of hope, a hand reaching out, a light at the end of a tunnel. Thank you for your dedication to portraying people's voices.

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a little girl who was never abused. Tears stream down my eyes as I ask myself why was I abused. I am sure that this is a question we all ask ourselves as survivors of sexual abuse. A question that will never get answered. I am a little girl who has lost her innocence by both male and female perpatrators. This mural is much needed and I thank those who have put it together. May God Bless This Mural and May we fianlly find our voices to speak out against sexual abuse the silent crime.
