Vision of Hope Advisory Council Chair elected to national board

HARRISBURG--The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) is proud to announce the election of member Wanda Filer, MD, MBA of York to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Board of Directors.
 
Dr. Filer, a family physician with a part-time clinical practice at East York Family Medicine, served as Pennsylvania’s first Physician General, where she acted as public health adviser to Gov. Tom Ridge. In addition, Dr. Filer is the founder of the Strategic Health Institute, a past ad hoc member of the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine and Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine, past-president of the Pennsylvania chapter of the AmericanCancer Society, and the current chair of Visions of Hope for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape. Television audiences in central Pennsylvania may recognize Dr. Filer from her 18 years as a health correspondent for WGAL-TV, the NBC affiliate in Lancaster.
 
As a member of the AAFP’s Board of Directors, Dr. Filer will advocate on behalf of 100,300 physicians and medical students – and their patients – to effect positive change in the U.S. health care system. In a tumultuous economy and a rapidly changing health care industry,
