About Sexual Violence
Child sexual abuse is an exploitation of power that takes away a child’s right to healthy and trusting relationships.
The experience that youth have with sexual violence can take on many forms including sexual harassment, pressure in dating relationships to engage in sexual behaviors, or pressure to send sexual pictures or texts.
People who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) experience sexual violence at higher rates than people who identify as heterosexual.
Victims of sexual violence are affected by many forms of oppression, including racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, ageism, ableism and others.
There is no single “profile” or set of characteristics to describe people who commit sexual offenses.
