Legal Center Director

The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is seeking a full-time Legal Center Director to provide executive level strategic leadership to Legal Center staff, oversee the activities of the Legal Center, and work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Program Officer, and Chief Executive Officer to direct the operations and strategic vision of the Legal Center. The YWCA’s Legal Center provides civil legal services and representation to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

Primary duties include:

  • Providing leadership, performance management, and evaluation to the staff and volunteers of the Legal Center;
  • Distributing and managing the caseload of project attorneys in alignment with grant goals and objectives;
  • Effectively managing federal and state level grants and grant activities, including project activities, data collection, and reporting;
  • Providing professional development opportunities for Legal Center staff;
  • Collaborating with the COO and CPO for the sustainability, growth, and overall program implementation of Legal Center services;
  • Recruiting, hiring, and succession planning of Legal Center staff, ensuring that programs are properly staffed and grant activities conducted;
  • Developing and maintaining a network of pro bono attorneys to support the Legal Center;
  • Developing and implementing processes, procedures, and best practices that promote consistent expectations for performance among staff and effective grant management;
  • Providing oversight of all program records including client records, statistical data, and other program-related documents to ensure efficient and effective use of resources and accurate grant management/reporting;
  • Providing community outreach and training on domestic/sexual violence issues in collaboration with the YWCA’s Violence Intervention & Prevention Department;
  • Working effectively as part of the YWCA team to accomplish the vision, mission and values of the organization, including developing and maintaining positive relations with other YWCA programs, government agencies, human service providers, law enforcement, and other entities that interface with the YWCA Greater Harrisburg;
  • Identifying and supporting the development of grant resource funding;
  • Overseeing the administrative functions of the Legal Center, ensuring compliance with all funding contracts and applicable local, state, and federal standards and regulations;
  • Carrying a caseload of legal cases for legal services and/or representation as needed.

Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:

  • Prior leadership experience including the management of staff and programs;
  • Law degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice in Pennsylvania or ability to secure admission to practice before Pennsylvania courts;
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience concentrated in family law
  • Ability to obtain Child Abuse, FBI, and State Police Clearances
