Anti-Racism Analysis Training

Brought to you by popular demand, Roots of Justice will be presenting their Anti-Racism Analysis Training specifically for PA advocates.
During this 3-day training, participants will receive a systemic analysis of racism and will build a common language and understanding of racism. Participants will also explore concepts like intersectionality and implicit bias as well as the historical, sociological, theological framing and basis of racism in the U.S. Lastly, participants will establish and develop team relationships while addressing system racism.
Audience:
Anyone working at PA sexual assault services centers/rape crisis centers and PCAR staff. Multiple representatives from centers are encouraged to attend.
Presenters:
Roots of Justice organization: Roots of Justice seeks the liberation of all persons from oppression, by providing strategies and tools for educating, organizing and renewing persons, institutions and systems.
- Rev. Dr. Calenthia Dowdy, Philadelphia, PA
- Calenthia Dowdy she/her, Rev. Calenthia S. Dowdy, Ph.D. (she/her) is a cultural anthropologist and college professor. Her academic research took place in Brazil where she enjoyed the fusion of Indigenous, African, and Portuguese cultures. She is trained in antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion, and also works in public health with communities dealing with trauma and the connections between body, mind, spirit and wholeness.
- Dowdy’s life adventures include working as a youth minister, kindergarten and eighth grade teacher, sailing the Sea of Galilee, and dancing with the Quechua people in the mountains of Bolivia. She received a Women’s Way Powerful Voice Award in 2016, completed the International Inside-Out program for prison education in 2019, and was awarded a Red Ribbon Award from the Penn Center for AIDS Research in 2020.
- Brenda Zook Friesen, Forest Grove, OR
- Brenda Zook Friesen (she/her) was introduced to antiracism organizing through her Mennonite Central Committee service term in New Orleans where she worked at The People’s Institute for Survival & Beyond. She has served as a trainer with Damascus Road/Roots of Justice since 1999, and as the director of the MCC US Anti-Racism Program. She currently works as the business manager for Tara Mohr, LLC, and volunteers with her local Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) chapter. Brenda lives in Forest Grove, Oregon, where she enjoys lots of outdoor adventures with her partner, Phil, and their two sons.
- Thulani (Conrad) Moore, Tucker, GA
- Conrad Moore (he/him) has been involved with Roots of Justice since 1997. For several years he served as co-coordinator for the MCC US Anti-Racism Program/Damascus Road and has also worked in peace education focusing on crime and justice issues. He lives in Stone Mt., Georgia with his wife and young daughter and is on the road a lot as a professional driver. Conrad remains actively involved in local urban peace-building movements.
- Dr. Drick Boyd, Philadelphia, PA
- Drick Boyd (he/him) is Professor Emeritus of Urban Studies from Eastern University where he taught for 22 years. He is the author of three books: White Allies in the Struggle for Racial Justice, and Paulo Freire: His Faith, Spirituality and Theology (with Dr. James Kirylo), and Disrupting Whiteness: Talking to White People About Racism. He also is a blogger and the author of numerous articles. In addition to Roots of Justice, he is an active member NewCORE (New Conversations on Race and Ethnicity), Philadelphia's Restorative City Initiative, and POWER Interfaith. He is trained in antiracist dialogue, community organizing, restorative justice and popular education.
- Throughout the course of his career, Drick has been a youth worker, a Baptist pastor, a chaplain at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center and a college professor. His passion is working with grassroots leaders to bring neighbors together to address community problems and build community leadership. In his free time, he likes biking, hiking and tennis. With his wife Cynthia, he is the proud parent of three adult daughters and a member of West Philadelphia Mennonite Fellowship.

Capacitacion sobre el analisis antirracista dirigida

Resumen:
A pedido del publico, Roots of Justice (Raices de Justicia) presentara su capacitacion sobre el analisis antirracista dirigida especificamente a los defensores de PA.
Durante esta capacitacion de 3 dias, los participantes recibiran un analisis sistemico del racismo y desarrollaran un lenguaje comun y una comprension del racismo. Los participantes tambien exploraran conceptos como la interseccionalidad y el sesgo implicito, asi como el marco historico, sociologico y teologico y la base del racismo en los EE. UU. Por ultimo, los participantes estableceran y desarrollaran relaciones de equipo mientras abordan el racismo del sistema.
Publico:
Cualquier persona que trabaje en los centros de servicios por violencia sexual de PA (tambien conocidos como centros de ayuda a victimas de violencia sexual) y el personal de la PCAR. Recomendamos que asistan varios representantes de los centros.

- Calenthia Dowdy ella/ella, Rev. Calenthia S. Dowdy, Ph.D. (ella) es antropologa cultural y profesora universitaria. Su investigacion academica tuvo lugar en Brasil, donde disfruto de la fusion de las culturas indigena, africana y portuguesa.
