State College Borough Building

Summary

Sexual violence is a complex topic for journalists to cover and can be even more difficult for the general public to understand. Advocates and educators must communicate simply and effectively to promote better understanding of the dynamics employed by offenders, victim responses and prevention strategies. PCAR and NSVRC staff will share strategies for effectively framing and delivering key messages about sexual violence, prevention, and intervention services. This session will build skills to shift from “field lingo” to plain language, deliver effective prevention messages, and fill the gap between what experts and the public know. Significant time will be allotted for practicing.
