Summary
While we encourage participants to attend both days of this training, it is not required that attendees register for both days.

Day 1 : Putting it All Together: Practice Points & Tough Topics

This is an experiential workshop where you will walk through trauma-informed assessment to closure. You will discover play-based assessment techniques, explore the effects of secondary wounding on trauma recovery, and learn trauma-focused closure interventions. You will leave this workshop with interventions that you can put into practice immediately.

Day 2: Trauma Informed Expressive Art Therapy

This workshop will provide a foundation in expressive art therapy. You will explore some of the main models of expressive therapies, identify the primary principles of expressive arts, and learn how to invite your clients to engage in a sensory experience through the arts. You will be invited to move, paint, write, draw and use music to learn about the power of the arts for healing

Presenters
Cherie Spehar: Cherie is a Certified Trauma Consultant with TLC and has served hundreds of children and adults with TLC Programs. A clinician since in 1994, Cherie has pioneered efforts in her local and statewide school system to bring Trauma-Informed approaches into the educational setting, and provides regular consultation to community agencies on Trauma-Informed Care. Specializing in trauma care, life transitions, grief, and attachment, her trauma-informed approach is highly focused on resiliency principles, particularly child-caregiver connections from birth through the lifespan. Cherie will be presenting day one’s training “Putting it All Together: Practice Points & Tough Topics.”

Carmen Richardson: Carmen Richardson is founder and director of Prairie Institute of Expressive Arts, where she offers supervision and training to professionals and community agencies. Carmen is a Certified Trauma Consultant and Certified Trainer with the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children. She is a Registered Clinical Social Worker, Registered Canadian Art Therapist, and Registered Expressive Arts Therapist. Carmen Richardson brings over 20 years experience to her private practice working with a range of issues with both adults and children/teens. She has specialized in the assessment and treatment of sexual abuse of children and teens offers individual, family and group therapy.  (From https://www.starr.org/bio/carmen-richardson)
