Webinar: Human Trafficking of Older Adults

The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV), the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR), Adult Protective Services (APS), and Older Adult Protective Services (OAPS) are excited to host a series of webinars on identifying, addressing, and building best practices on responding to Human Trafficking of Adults and Older Adults in Pennsylvania.

This partnership will be presenting a series of five webinars that will introduce each agency and services available, intimate partner violence and sexual violence in later life, human trafficking of older adults, building collaborations, and examining case studies in the state.

Please join us on June 17th from 1:00pm - 2:30pm for the first webinar of the series to explore what services and resources each organization offers when supporting adult and older adult survivors of abuse, exploitation, and trafficking.

PA Coalition Against Domestic Violence

Jessa Winas
Jessa Winas is a Training and Technical Assistance Specialist at the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV). Jessa brings over 7 years of experience in the domestic violence field, working at both the local and state levels providing direct service & resource development. At PCADV, they provide training on topics such as Intimate Partner Violence in Later Life, Trauma and Vicarious Trauma, Trauma-Informed Service Delivery, and others to various audiences and stakeholders. Jessa is a member of the Coalition’s Gender and Sexual Justice Caucus, serving as the Outreach Subcommittee staff liaison.]

They graduated from Indiana University of PA with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Women’s Studies in 2011. They earned a master’s degree in Social Work from Edinboro University in 2016. They are also a volunteer educational ambassador for the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging and a member of the National Association of Social Workers.

Tammy Oliver
Tammy Oliver is a human services professional with over 30 years of demonstrated experience in the non-profit world including 23 years working in the field of domestic violence and 5 years working with people living with mental health and intellectual disabilities. Tammy is currently the Victim Services Manager for the PA Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In this role Tammy is primarily responsible for developing the capacity of PCADV staff and advocates from the statewide network of domestic violence programs to comprehensively assist victims of domestic violence and their children in their efforts to achieve social justice, safety, agency and restoration. In her previous role as the Chief Executive Director for A Women’s Place, Tammy was responsible for overseeing the administration, fund raising, marketing, community outreach programs and strategic plan of the organization.

Tammy holds a master’s degree from Lincoln University in Human Services. Tammy is also working on a Doctorate Degree from Capella University in the field of Business Management Specialization in Leadership. Tammy lives by Mahatma Ghandi’s quote “Be the change you wish to see in the world”.=

PA Coalition Against Rape

Karen Galbraith
Karen Galbraith is the Training Projects Coordinator at the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR). A licensed social worker, Karen has over 20 years of experience in the field of sexual violence, volunteering and working at both the local and state levels. She has provided direct services to survivors and their families, and has facilitated trainings to a variety of audiences, including criminal justice professionals, protective services workers, allied professionals, college campuses, and the military, including the US Army War College and the Pennsylvania National Guard.  In her role at PCAR, Karen has developed numerous resources and training curricula, with topics ranging from human trafficking to trauma-informed practices.

Karen has participated in numerous local, regional, and statewide taskforces, including the Office of the Attorney General's working group on campus sexual assault, the Pennsylvania Alliance Against Trafficking in Humans and the Statewide Advisory Committee on Human Trafficking. In addition to her work at PCAR, Karen is an adjunct professor in the Social Work Department at Shippensburg University and a Social Work Supervisor at Penn State Dickinson School of Law’s Children’s Advocacy Clinic.

Laura Deitz
Laura Deitz, B.S. in Social Work, Director of the Adult Protective Service Division within the PA Department of Human Services. Ms. Deitz has over 17 years’ experience in protective services work, including child protective services, older adult protective services, and Adult Protective Services law and program.

Older Adult Protective Services

Denise Getgen
Denise Getgen, Director, Protective Services Office, PA Department of Aging
Educational Background: RN, BSN

Denise has worked for over 29 years in various registered nursing (RN) roles in cardiac/respiratory intensive care units and corrections. She has worked for the state of PA since 2000 for both the PA Department of Health and the PA Department of Aging.  Denise assumed her role as Director of Protective Services Office in 2015. The Office is responsible for the administration and implementation of the statewide Older Adults Protective Services Program.
