Summary:  YWCA York’s victim services programs, ACCESS York and Victim Assistance Center, are York County’s sole providers of comprehensive support services to victims and survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking. We work with the community to end abuse and offer a variety of direct service and community education and prevention programs.  YWCA York is committed to being an accessible, culturally responsive, and trauma informed organization to support YWCA York’s mission of eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

The Prevention and Community Outreach Advocate coordinates and facilitates age appropriate primary prevention education programs in area schools using evidence-based prevention curricula to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, and teen dating  violence.  The position will also collaborate with and train community partners to support a coordinated response for sexual and domestic violence prevention efforts.  The ideal candidate will have proven experience in providing community-based primary prevention; training and public speaking experience; previous experience working with children, teens,and young adults; exceptional organization and communication skills; knowledge of trauma- informed principles; and the ability to work independently and with a team.

This position is temporarily a hybrid position.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Training and Facilitation

  • Facilitate primary prevention programming to students in area middle schools, high schools, and post-secondary schools focused on empathy, self-esteem, feelings, boundaries, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, etc.
  • Conduct trainings to educators, administrators, and staff in York County school systems and York County Higher Education systems focused on improving systemic response to sexual abuse and teen dating violence
  • Deliver training and education to underserved and marginalized populations
  • Assist in training staff, interns, and volunteers during quarterly Advocate Training sessions

Advocacy and Crisis Response

  • Provide immediate crisis intervention to adolescents disclosing sexual assault, family violence, or dating violence
  • Provide on-call support, options, and safety planning to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence at local hospitals and healthcare sites
  • Provide on-site advocacy to students at York College of Pennsylvania (YCP)
  • Serve on the YCP Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT)

Outreach and Awareness

  • Collaborate with the Community Education team and other departments to plan, participate, and/or host community outreach and awareness events
  • Work with the Community Education team and Marketing Department to create content for social media and other promotional materials
  • Contact schools, higher education, and youth serving organizations to promote prevention education and awareness activities
  • Identify and connect with underserved populations to increase awareness of and utilization of services
  • Distribute brochures, safety posters and other materials throughout the county

Professional Development

  • Participate in all professional development opportunities including but not limited to on- going training at conferences and webinars pertaining to domestic and sexual violence, including their intersections with other forms of oppression and the need for trauma-informed, victim-centered advocacy
  • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and supervision

Administrative

  • Maintain statistical information, reports, and forms that are necessary for the operation of the Community Education programs
  • Prepare and interpret program evaluations to determine efficacy of programming
  • Develop training materials Other duties as required or assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Associates degree or 3 years work experience in the field of human services or education
  • Experience working with youth preferred
  • Must complete PCAR/PCADV advocate training within the first 90 days of employment

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience related to sexual assault, domestic violence, and teen dating violence
  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to engage a wide range of audiences and ages Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Some evening and weekend hours required
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Zoom, and social media platforms
  • English proficiency (written, spoken) required, bilingual a plus
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
